YUKI
Hello,My name is yuki. I am a mother of two elementary school–aged boys.
I am currently creating stories based on my original characters, working at a very slow and
thoughtful pace.
My background
As a child, I was shy and deeply loved drawing and making things on my own.
While attending a design-focused high school, I experienced a darkroom for the first time and became fascinated with photography. During my high school years, I attended a photography school in the evenings as a double-school arrangement, built a darkroom at home, and immersed myself in shooting and developing photographs.
I had decided early on to become a photographer, but inspired by Annie Leibovitz—who studied painting when she was young—I entered the oil painting program at Tama Art University. During this time, I developed a strong interest in German conceptual photography and once again spent countless hours in the university darkroom.
After graduating, I worked as a studio assistant and at a web content company, then became an independent freelance photographer at the age of 28. Influenced by German photography and my love of architecture, I spent about five years traveling across Japan as an architectural advertising photographer.
Following my marriage and the birth of my first son, I continued working for three years, focusing mainly on 360° VR photography and image production, making use of my strengths in retouching.
After the birth of my second son, I chose to devote myself fully to raising my children. I let go of all my photography equipment and past works and moved to the suburbs. Although this period coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, I was able to spend many happy and meaningful moments with my family.
When my children entered elementary school, I began drawing story illustrations inspired by their memories. While attending vocational training and working part-time four days a week, I completed two chapters of a picture book in my spare time. Through this process, I became keenly aware of how much I still had to learn as an illustrator.
In October 2025, after leaving my part-time job, I decided to fully commit to my creative work. I am currently studying drawing, experimenting with various art materials, and continuing to create my own picture books.
I share my work on Instagram and my blog.
